On Digital Media, Episode #36: Follow the Google
In this episode John Federico, Chia-Lin Simmons, Ken Gellman, Steve Hatch and guest panelist Craig Calder , CMO of Mochila discuss the week in digital media. (Yes, we realize that we referred to this episode as #35, at least twice. We were overwhelmed by our temporary studio location. Or something.)
- Google’s making all the right moves and everyone else seems to be following.
- Google acquires FeedBurner for $100MM in cash.
- Will GoogleClick serve up video ads for TV?
- Craig gives us some insight into DoubleClick during digital media’s “Nuclear Winter.”
- Microsoft acquired aQuantive for over $6B dollars.
- Google has recently invested in a biotech company…run buy Sergey’s wife.
- Is Terry Semel the person to run Yahoo? What is a “Digital Media Executive“?
- Yahoo has decided to kill off WebJay in the next 30 days
- We dissect Yahoo a bit.
- Yahoo is rumored to buy Bebo for $1B
- Is there a place for an advertising “upfront” in digital media. Uuuuh, no.
- What would the repercussions of a Salesforce.com acquisition by Google be for the B-to-B marketplace? It would probably turn the market on its head.
- ScanScout introduces “Google Adsense for Video”. Coincidentally, so does Google.
Apparently the executions are quite differrent, though. More to come on this. - Are pre and post roll video advertising “dead”? No, but it’s the easiest (best?) thing that can be delivered at the moment.
Our wines this week were a 2004 Coppola Rosso and…something that Craig brought, which was very good but I don’t remember what it was called.
Our closing music is Democracy from Alexander Blu.
